Doodling is a good way to develop new ideas and communicating them to other people.

My team and I was used, in the old normal, to drink coffee in front of a whiteboard, sketching problems, ideas, and solutions. In the new normal, this is no more feasible or effective, because most parts of the interactions between people are behind a screen.

So, I’ve started to look for a new way to share ideas in a visual form. I landed on a graphic tablet. In the beginning, it’s not so easy to use a graphic tablet, because the stylus is on a surface and the drawing appears on another. But with a little exercise, it’s easy to overcome this gap.

Nowadays, very often during a web call, I say “let me open a blackboard”, starting to represent what I’m saying. Many feedback tell me that this complement into the communication is very effective. For example, now I strategically leave white space into my PowerPoint presentations in order to add some content in real-time.

To improve the art of doodling, I’ve developed a simple exercise. I browse the tweets on Twitter and, when I find something interesting, I try to translate the text in a draw. In this helps the text limitation of Twitter: any concept is reduced to its essence.

In the picture, there are the doodles made in this way during the month of September 2021. Feel free to be inspired: you don’t need to be an artist to sketch valuable ideas. And more, don’t hesitate to provide back your ideas and feedback.
